Socks and Sandals Sunday…Part 2

Now, on the ladies, somehow I find socks and sandals slightly less objectionable. I don’t know why, but sometimes it seems to work. That said though, it’s not a look that is necessarily easy to pull off. One should proceed with great care, and there are a few “cautionary-tale” photos to illustrate this…Be very, very careful.

April Showers

Sunshine, blue sky, please go away,
I just bought new rain boots and I want to wear them today
With these boots I’ll look too cute, I hope clouds will amass real soon,
So day after day, I hold out hope for a near monsoon

I know to you it might sound strange,
But I wish it would rain
(Oh how I wish that it would rain, rain, rain, rain)

The Temptations have nothing on me; sing it with me now!!!

I am not alone…

Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know.  Michael Jackson already told me that. Anywho…

As you may have gathered from my previous post, there is much love for a Burberry trench.  How could there not be?  For me, it’s not about the label.  It’s about the timelessness.  And, in this, I am not alone.  As I was perusing the first issue of the new online magazine matchbook, the sentiment was echoed.  There on page 36 was an article titled, chicer, wiser, drier.  It was an ode to the iconic Burberry trench.  I felt as if I had met a kindred spirit.

The article also struck a cord with me for another reason. As I am psyching myself up for the Great Closet Clean-up of 2011, I know I am going to encounter items that will cause me to ask aloud, “What on earth was I thinking?”  And as the pile of outgoing items amasses, I am going to run a mental tally of the money spent (read: “misallocated”) on things I no longer want and most likely never needed.

However, instead of getting down, I am actually looking forward to the process of eliminating these unwanted visual reminders of my former missteps and appreciating the items that I am oh-so-glad I bought.  I am certain that this will serve to reinforce for me that investing in pieces that will stand the test of time (like “the trench”) is worth it.  Those tend to be my go to, feel good, selections and they pay for themselves time and time again.

Let the games begin!

Back to Basics

Basic – n. 1) of, relating to, or forming a base; fundamental 2) of, being, or serving as the basis or starting point

Whether building a wardrobe or paring one back, there are a few items that can be considered essential. Among those is a trench coat.  If you are a “purest,” a more classic style may suit your taste.  Otherwise, there are a number of more contemporary, even edgy, options.  Either way you go, a trench is a wardrobe essential.

The latest cold weather straight Break-Out Trend as of this season is the Men’s Snood! (Scarf x Hood hybrid)…  This is originally a UK embraced style that has made its way across the pond!

I use the word “Trend” sparingly because these are SO functional that I can’t see ever letting mine go in the name of them being “out-dated” or no longer the “fad”.  These have become a cold weather staple for me now permanently!

I wanted to post these different looks so that the gents’ won’t be afraid to include these in their wardrobes & actually wear them!  They are not “feminine”…they’ll take on the spirit of the wearer!  Like I said before they’re also extremely functional!  No more knot tying to keep our scarves from getting closed in the door, dropping them in the slush, people telling you Sir you’ve dropped your scarf! Plus they double as a hood…can’t beat em!!!

Try one & you’ll never be the same!

Rene Descartes, a French philosopher, mathematician, and physicist, is perhaps best known for the statement,
“I think, therefore I am.”

I’ll see his quote and add another,
“I see, therefore I shop.”
